I am an artist inspired by the natural world and my relationship to it. I paint landscapes with the goal of highlighting the wonder, magic, fragility, and persistence of our world. I want people to look at my work and feel a sense of peace while also feeling an urgency to see, explore, and protect these places.
I love to paint native plant and animal species in my landscapes. I like how plants and animals together make up a visual experience that is specific to a particular place. The colors of the wildflowers and the smell of the trees create a multi-sensory memory of a place. For example, the mountain West is defined by Aspen trees and raptors. I want my paintings to evoke memories of natural places.
I live in Idaho and many of my works are inspired by the landscape of the West. I gain my inspiration from spending time outside backpacking, riding bikes, and snowboarding. In addition to being an artist, I am also a high school art teacher. I enjoy sharing art with others and empowering them to think critically and value their artistic voice.
